Equity for Rural People.
At Rural Wisconsin, we know the value of the unique rural perspective, and we’re here to ensure rural communities don’t get left behind.

What is “rural” Wisconsin?
Rural is a state of mind just as much as it is a place. These maps, created by Caitlin Bourbeau at University of Wisconsin’s Applied Population, illustrate some aspects of what can be considered “rural.” Whether it is the Census designations, land use, or people and animal population densities, the definition of “rural” can be quite varied. Residents of “rural” areas have needs just as diverse as these definitions and Rural Wisconsin Inc. aims to represent all the concerns of Wisconsin’s rural residents.

Development
We want to ensure rural communities are given opportunities to grow through effective infrastructure and transportation systems.

Sustainability
To encourage lasting, positive impacts, we aim to implement systems that are good for both the economy and the environment.

Access
Rural citizens deserve a just share of society’s resources and equal access to its goods and services
Rural Wisconsin needs your help.
We are looking for individuals and organizations who care about our rural communities.

Continuing our vision
Rural Wisconsin, Inc. was formed in 1979 as a state affiliate of Rural America, Inc. Rural America was one of the organizations founded during the Rural Renaissance of the 1970s when there was a renewed emphasis on policies affecting quality of life in rural communities. Soon after its founding the Board and membership adopted the following mission. It still rings true.
